Clinical Healthcare (Healthcare Support Worker) Standards
All our programmes are accredited for Edexcel Awarding Body and meet the National Standards for the Health Sector as defined by Skills for Health Sector Skills Council.
DHCT is the provider of choice for GP practises in Cornwall supporting recruitment and training for Health care Assistants (HCA’s) and other health care organisations in the area. As a specialist provider of clinical training we are well placed to support health services in Cornwall.
This course is for front line Healthcare Assistant, Healthcare Support Worker, Nursing Assistant, Nursing Auxiliary.
In order to meet this standard learners will be required to achieve a:
- Level 2 Diploma in Care BTEC
- Care Certificate
- achieve level 1 English and maths
- take the test for level 2 English and maths
Duration: 12 months
Cost: Government may fund up to 90% of training fees, it depends on the size of your organisation.

Grant: If learner is aged 16-18 the employer will receive a grant of £1000
Learners must undertake an End Point Assessment prior to successful completion of their standard. This will include:
- A multiple choice test
- An observation of practice undertaken in the workplace
- An evidence portfolio completed by the apprentice with an interview
Delivery: Blended learning through one to one support with an occupationally competent tutor/assessor in the workplace and our virtual learning environment.

Senior Clinical Healthcare Support Workers (HCA’s).
As an experienced clinical healthcare worker, you carry out a range of clinical and non-clinical healthcare or therapeutic tasks. Within GP services HCA’s work autonomously running clinics to meet patient needs, but this qualification can also be used for someone specialising as an Adult Nursing Support Worker, Maternity Support Worker, Theatre Support Worker, Mental Health Support Worker, Children and Young People Support Worker or Allied Health Profession – Therapy Support Worker
In order to meet this standard learners will be required to achieve a:
- Care Framework Certificate
- a Learning Journal completed for last 3 months
- Level 3 BTEC Diploma Senior Healthcare Support Worker
- Minimum of Level 2 English
- Minimum of Level 2 Maths
Duration: 13 months
Cost: Government may fund up to 90% of training fees, it depends on the size of your organisation.

Level 5 Assistant Practitioner in Health and Social Care Adult Apprenticeship flyer
Assistant Practitioners work as part of the wider health and social care team and have direct contact with patients, service users or clients providing high quality and compassionate care. Assistant Practitioners work at a level above that of Healthcare Support Workers and have a more in-depth understanding about factors that influence health and ill-health (e.g. anatomy and physiology). On completion of this apprenticeship the individual will be a competent and job-ready Assistant Practitioner in the health sector. The apprenticeship standard provides a high level description of the skills, knowledge, values and behaviours required of the Assistant Practitioner

The learner must complete the EPA to achieve the full programme.

Employer Contribution non levy £600
Employer Commitment – Employer and learner will sign an Apprenticeship Agreement with a Statement of Commitment from all parties, identifying the key expectations, roles and responsibilities of each party, the key milestones, delivery schedules, employer contribution and End Point Assessment arrangements.
